As parents, we are able to recognize our children’s strengths and potential but don’t always appropriately encourage them to make big dreams, accomplish their goals and reach their potential. What many of us fail to recognize is that at a young age, your child may still only be seeing the roadblocks that stand in their way as opposed to the possibility of reaching the endless possibilities of their potential. More importantly, they may even believe that their dreams are not within reach, and that they may not have what is required in order to achieve success within their lives.
How to Inspire Your Kids to Greatness From The Very Beginning
As parents, it is our job to encourage our children to overcome all barriers, and to go after and work hard for what they want, and with some vital parenting tips to inspiring your kids to greatness, you can do just that.
In order to spark the imagination within your child in regards to what they can become, who they can be and the kind of things that they can achieve, they have to be provided with opportunity; opportunity to do things that they love, opportunity to find new hidden talents; opportunity to see what the world has to offer; to find their passion. Allow your child to try all kinds of sports, classes and extra-curricular activities that they’re interested in, and to encourage them to also try new things that they may not have thought about previously. Doing so will allow them to find the things that they truly love to do and will open their mind to their endless possibilities that are within their reach. However, be sure to never bombard your child with too many activities all at once as this can become a stressful and overwhelming situation as opposed to an enjoyable one, and can encourage them to be a quitter as opposed to an achiever.
Power of Praise and Support
You may not always be as interested in the new activity that your child wants to try, and you may even not like the sport, activity or career that they choose at all. However, as a parent, it is absolutely vital to be supportive of your child’s decisions, and to always let them know that you are proud of them. Your child is an individual, and will have his or her own passions. You may not like the entire situation or all of the circumstances, but your praise, support and recognition are powerful elements that are extremely beneficial to your a child. It can teach them confidence and self-esteem and further encourage them to go after all of their dreams and to strive to reach their fullest potential. In addition, your child is much more likely to push forward through the hurdles of life as opposed to giving up when they know you have their back.
Committing to Greatness
In order to teach your child to succeed, you need to teach them to be committed; to not give up or take the easy route ‘just because’. When your child pursues a new activity, class, sport or job, drive them to stick it through right until the end of the season, program, event or trial period. Teach them that quitting in the middle of something is not okay, and that once you commit to something, you must follow through with it. In turn, it will teach them that in order to reach greatness, you need to keep going until you’ve reached the finish line; the goal. Commitment is also a valuable trait to have that can play a vital role in their success, that is also sought after by those that can provide new opportunities for your child, whether it’s an employer offering a new job or a coach offering the Captain position.
Introduce Great Role Models
Children are often directed/encouraged by their peers and role models, and introducing great influences into their life will help them stay on a positive path that is also headed towards success. It could be someone as simple as a real life hero within your community, a family friend that volunteers regularly to help the environment, or even a famous athlete that is often recognized for their charitable actions. You may also want to consider getting your child involved in some organizations that will surround them with positive influences. Whatever role models or positive activities you choose to introduce to them, try to do so when your child is young and highly impressionable. What he or she learns now will certainly stick with them throughout their life.
