Every new day is yet another opportunity to grow, learn things, get closer to our goals, and set new, bigger ones.
But the beginning of the year one is a fantastic chance to see what we’ve been doing wrong, assess our life and progress so far, and enter 2017 with a bang.
Let the theme of the New Year be personal growth.
That means that whatever you do, wherever you go, and whoever you spend time with, you’ll always have your end vision in mind. You will be alright with making mistakes, but will take the lesson after each. You will experiment, build some new, healthy habits, and get things done regardless of the distractions around.
A lot can be achieved in a year. So why wait for yet another one to go by without being a better version of yourself and finally fulfilling your dreams?
Below you’ll see five aspects of every personal growth process that you should consider in order to really get ahead in many areas in life. Keep moving forward so you can become more successful, productive, and happier.
Here’s how to boost your personal growth starting today:
1) Effective time-management.
So many people complain about never having enough time to do all the things they want to get done in a day. Truth is, their system is WRONG.
Most of their daily activities are unproductive, and can be ditched. Then, they’ll have time, focus and energy to work on what matters, and to do the things they enjoy.
Managing your time effectively is a super valuable life skill. Unfortunately, we underestimate it and never give it enough thought.
Let’s do something about it today.
Analyze how you spent the last few days. Write down anything you did down to the last detail. Without this step, you won’t be able to see the bigger picture and open your eyes for all the time you’re wasting, that can be invested in better things.
Once you have that data in front of you, start analyzing.
For each item on the list, no matter if it was mindlessly browsing online apps or doing something seemingly productive, ask yourself if it gets you closer to your goals. Is it something you find pleasure in, or does it helps you or others around you in some way? If not, it must go away.
It’s unbelievable how hard it is to stop doing activities we’re used to, but how much time we can free up once we do.
Most of what you think you should do is actually unnecessary. Don’t be afraid to cut some of these, just like you’d cut some expenses when the goal is to save some money.
Once you have more time on your hands, optimize it.
If you don’t plan things in advance, if you don’t know what needs to get done each day and organize your schedule well, chances are, you’ll end up doing nothing most of the time. Plus, you’ll feel like you haven’t been productive in the evening.
Begin each day by creating a to-do list. Put some more important items on the top, and don’t move onto anything less essential until you complete these.
2) Be around the right people.
A much necessary component of growing and succeeding in life is to have similar people around you: the ones who’ve already achieved a lot, and who are willing to guide you along the journey.
But the everyday environment we’ve always been in won’t help us get there. We need to get out of it, go find such people, and connect with them.
If you’re an entrepreneur wanting to grow your business, start networking or just chatting for fun with like-minded individuals. Join mastermind groups, go to every big event in your industry, and hand out your business card whenever you have the chance.
If you want to become an optimist, stop spending time with negative people everyday. Be firm tell them your goal. Then, be around those who always find reasons to smile.
Yes, you can do it on your own. But in difficult times, it really does help to receive some words of encouragement, see that you’re not alone in this journey, to learn from the mistakes of others, and to ask for feedback whenever in doubt.
3) Start working out.
Staying active is closely related to how successful we are in life.
If we don’t move a little every day – be it jogging, going to the gym, exercising at home, or joining a class we enjoy – we’ll fall into the trap of sedentary life. That’s bad for your body, but it makes your mind lazy, too.
Engaging in some kind of activity is truly beneficial to getting out of the rut, doing something new, challenging yourself, releasing the stress and tension, and being in a better mood.
It’s hard to build exercising as a habit, but it pays off in the long run. You’ll be healthier, more energetic and productive, looking and feeling fresh, in shape, and always on the go.
4) Optimize your sleep.
2017 sounds like a good year to finally take care of your sleeping habits.
Most of us don’t get enough sleep every night. We can’t let our brains and bodies relax before bed, can’t fall asleep fast, wake up during the night, and start the next day lacking energy.
But if you do sleep soundly each and every night, it means that your days will be better. You’ll be able to concentrate when working and thus, excel at work. You’ll look younger, instead of tired all the time, as sleep is rejuvenating. You’ll be more mindful and alert, enjoying each day more.
To optimize sleep, start with breaking some bad habits you usually do in the evening.
Don’t watch TV or use devices prior to bed. Don’t eat or drink anything an hour before going to sleep. Instead, let that be your most relaxing time of the day. Do quiet and peaceful activities like meditating, reading, stretching, de-cluttering, and preparing for tomorrow.
This way, you’ll be at ease, and when in bed, it will be easier to shut off your brain and get to sleep. The next morning, you’ll be able to wake up early, feel super refreshed and ready to kickstart your personal growth.
5) Do new things.
Last but not least, in order to keep evolving, you should be doing new things as often as possible. Otherwise, we start living in a comfort zone, where we feel pretty safe and comfortable, but miss out on life because we stop taking risks and doing new things.
Novelty is key to personal growth.
Get it back in your life by talking to new people, visiting new places, doing things you’re afraid of, reading different types of books, and even being more drastic every now and then.
Take chances that might not become a success. That’s a surefire way to accelerate your self-development. By breaking free from your comfort zone on a consistent basis, you’ll eventually let go of the need to feel comfortable.
You will instead be adventurous, become a risk-taker, start new projects, improve your social skills, boost confidence, and become adaptive.
Ready to begin your journey on personal growth?
All these qualities can then be used to skyrocket your business, love life, creativity, or anything else that’s important to you.
Over to YOU now.
