Are Others Stopping You From Pursuing Your Dreams?
Who or what is stopping your from following your dreams?
Why is it that when you announce you’re going to pursue a goal, some people insist on shooting the idea down immediately? Without trying to villainies an entire portion of the human race, let’s face it, there are a lot of people out there who are real “quick draws” to shoot down other’s dreams. Rarely with any logic or experience to back up their claims that “It’ll never work”. All too often, the unsuspecting would be goal chaser quickly submits and drops the dream.
This is how people spend their whole life never getting past “the idea phase” of their dreams.
I’m no psychologist but I am an entrepreneur, so rather than try and analyze why these “quick draws” do (or don’t do) what they do, let’s think like Richard Branson and put a positive spin on this. Firstly, history is littered with people who were not only doubted, but publicly shamed for their radical ideas until proven correct. So you’re in good company.
The idea that meteorites came from outer space was met with HOSTILE disbelief in the early 1800’s…
The first step here is not to try and justify to others why your goal is achievable. Some credible studies suggest that these “quick draws” try to kill your idea because they’re worried it will work. Giving proof of concept will only aggravate them more and intensify the resistance. Rather, as you consider your motivations to achieve that goal, add to the list that you’d like to prove those who doubted you WRONG. Richard Branson (yes, I’m a fan) has been quite public with the motivation he gets from people who tell him “It’ll never work”. Let your success do the talking, its very loud and stubborn on its own, you don’t need to say a word. And… even if you fail, you’ll always have the personal satisfaction of knowing that you’ll never have to wonder what could have been.
“Don’t believe your doubters, prove them wrong” –Richard Branson
It may all seem a bit negative, but I’ve never been one to distract people with ice cream and unicorns every time something bad happens. I support the Game Changers (not their haters) and have learned that EVERY one of these Game Changers, dealt with people who tried to hold them back from the beginning. Guess what I’m trying to say is, if you want to be a race car driver… go be a race car driver. If you want to finish school… go finish school. Any if you want to cure cancer… well then by all means, go cure cancer! The only thing standing between you and your dreams should be time and effort, not another person.
