10 reasons to accept yourself just as you are

With social media there is so much pressure to live a life that isn’t yours.  This extensive connectivity can have you fooled into thinking that everyone’s life is amazing and that your life isn’t.  On social media, everyone has the perfect marriage, relationship, family, job, social life, etc.  However, social media only shows you the highlight reel of your connections’ lives.  It doesn’t show you the everyday behind the scenes actions.

If you ever start doubting yourself based on what you see on social media or based on the expectations of others, I want you to keep in mind the below 9 reasons why you should accept yourself just as you are.

Why you should accept yourself just as you are

1.) You are a work in progress. Don’t beat yourself up or speak negatively to yourself because you aren’t perfect. Perfection is a myth.Focus on being the best you that you can be.

2.) Your past is a part of you.You are not defined by your mistakes. In fact, your mistakes mean that you are human. Admit your mistakes, forgive yourself, learn the lessons, and move on.

3.) You are an individual and not a copy. Your imperfections make you unique, and your tests allow you to be a testimony to others. Embrace and accept it. Don’t run from it.

4.) You need to learn the lessons of your season. Every season of your life has lessons. Look for the lessons. Then, learn how to be the best you that you can be in your current season.

5.) You will have less stress from trying to be someone that you’re not. You will also have less stress from trying to find things outside of yourself to make you happy. If you find acceptance and happiness inside of yourself then you will no longer need to find happiness from other places and things.

6.) You are doing something right. We are conditioned to focus on the things that we are doing wrong and minimizing our weakness. Think about it. What were you asked in your last performance review or job interview?  One book that transformed how I thought was Strengths Finder 2.0. This book helped me to realize that I would be more powerful if I focused on and improved the things that I do well.

7.) It helps you to practice forgiveness. We are far more likely to forgive others instead of forgiving ourselves. When you work on forgiveness, you release hurt and negative feelings and open yourself up to living a more fulfilled life.

8.) You are stronger than you think. You may be in the midst of a storm and feel very weak right now. Know that you are stronger than you think, and whatever you are going through will pass. You will be ok.

9.) It’s not worth comparing yourself to others. Comparing yourself to others is destructive. Your journey is tailor made for you. Besides, people only tell and show you what they want you to see instead of what is really happening.
