We all have 24 hours a day – and that simple fact can raise the question, are we using it productively? In too many cases, many of us waste our time watching our favorite TV shows and moving around doing random things that will never get us closer to our goals and things that are important to us.
If you are looking to make the most of your time, we have a list of new skills and goals that can be accomplished by devoting 2 hours a day for 2 years.
1. Learning a new language
Learning a new language is not easy. No one can learn a new language in a day or two. It is a slow and gradual process. But it can be accomplished if you are dedicated. If you are excited about the idea of being able to connect with people from different countries, this will be a fun goal for you.
Before deciding to learn a new language, it is important to be sure that you select one that interests you. If it is not interesting, it will be a burden on your shoulders, and you will NOT be happy about the time spent in this direction. So make sure that you like the language you choose to study for 2 hours a day for 2 years.
2. Making new friends
In every stage of our lives, we get opportunities to make new friends. It’s a time-consuming process, because we cannot simply trust anyone and everyone who is in our circle. This means that you will constantly be on the hunt for someone dependable and supportive.
Speaking about friends, it is important that you spend quality time with them if you want them to be a part of your life for the long haul.
3. Learning about new places and cultures
Learning about new places and cultures is a great thing – but you cannot do it all in a day! You might not even have adequate knowledge about your own culture and traditions either. Yes, you might have basic knowledge about it, but there are many things you still need to know.
So why not start by exploring your own place and culture to be sure that you have foundational knowledge about it?
Later on, you can shift to different places and learn about different cultures and traditions practiced across the world. For this, if you are planning to stay in a particular place for a couple of days or longer, start looking for affordable but comfortable accommodations online.
4. Helping others unconditionally
To be a better person, it is important to stay away from selfishness and expectations. In today’s world, most of what we do hangs on expecting something in return. However, it is important to correct this habit.
Stop expecting anything from others and you will definitely feel better. Start by helping someone close to you at home without expecting anything in return.
Slowly and steadily, you will develop a habit of assisting those in need, whether you’re on the road, at work, or during your daily commute. Try dedicating 2 hours a day for 2 years on this task and you’ll soon master the habit of helping people unconditionally.
5. Being healthy
This is one of the most important things in life, but it is also one of the most difficult to accomplish – especially for those who have never chosen healthy options.
Exercising on a daily basis for example, is something to begin with. It not only helps you be physically strong, but it also aids in maintaining cognitive functions. Fortunately, there are many ways in which you can exercise if you hate the thought of working out.
If you love sports, you can try soccer or swimming. If you are adventurous, hiking can be an option for you. This way, you can choose an activity to be healthy without intentionally trying to avoid it. Begin by exercising for 30 minutes a day and you will feel the difference.
Apart from this, it is important to eat healthy food every day as well. There are people who incorporate fruits and vegetables in their diet once a week, and expect themselves to be healthy. This is NOT possible unless you start eating healthy meals daily.
Create a meal plan and try to stick to it. Observe these new habits for 2 hours a day for 2 years and see the improvement in your mind and body.
6. Being responsible
There are people who assume that responsibility comes with age. However, it is a possibility that you might be forced into a situation where being responsible is the only thing for you. In such situations, you do not want others to blame you unnecessarily.
Please note that being responsible does not only mean completing your task on time and supporting your family. It also means that you should try to be successful but prepare for failure. Don’t consider yourself or your family alone. Being responsible means extending accountability towards your community, too.
7. Exploring oneself
Having a deep understanding of oneself is one of the keys to a happy life. You can do this by spending at least 2 hours a day for 2 years on simply thinking. Successful, high-profile individuals like Warren Buffett have been doing this strategy for years.
So start by asking yourself what you actually want. Take some downtime and sit in silence daily. Spend some time thinking about yourself and your life goals. Make sure that the next time you sit down and explore yourself, you should have made some progress to keep yourself satisfied.
8. Reducing your dependency on technology
Most of us have become totally dependent on technology these days. We know that it is not possible for us to move around from one place to another without at least ONE piece of technology in our hand. In most cases, we carry around two or three gadgets at a time.
But there comes a time when we need to look for ways in which we can minimize dependency on technology.
Fortunately, this task is not really as difficult. This is because we can stay away from gadgets while doing other things during the day, such as when we take a stroll or spend time with our loved ones. You don’t need to totally stay away from technology. However, we can gradually reduce our dependence on it to make our lives better.
9. Maximize your cognitive performance
It’s cool to be smart. The best thing about it is that no one can easily fool you. This challenge is not really the most difficult, but it will need dedication.
You can start by reading quality articles online and in newspapers. Reading novels and poetry will also help. You can also play challenging games like Scrabble, Sudoku, and many more to gradually develop your mind.
If you want to improve your mental capabilities, it is important to hang out with people who share the same values. Make sure your hanging around people who push your thinking.
10. Mastering your craft
If you love doing something, it is a good idea to look for ways in which you can master it. Whether you’re into niche hobbies like scale modeling or popular activities like dancing, spending 2 hours a day for 2 years on that task should help you excel at it.
Never underestimate the power of every hour of everyday. Remember: time is our most valuable commodity because we can never get it back. Use yours wisely.
